Livingstone was founded in 1905 in the same year as the completion of the Victoria Falls Bridge having been sited away from the swampy area next to the Zambezi River crossing at the Old Drift. In 1911 it became the capital of what was then Northern Rhodesia until 1935 when Lusaka was named as the new capital.
Steeped in history, Livingstone has now become the tourism capital of Zambia. There are several notable museums and places of historical interest in Livingstone, namely the Livingstone Museum in the centre of town, the Railway museum which also hosts the Jewish museum, The Victoria Falls Bridge Museum next to the Bridge by the same name and the early man museum next to the Victoria Falls.
Livingstone also offers a huge variety of activities to keep most visitors occupied during their stay. Rafting, Sunset cruising, River safaris, Walking under the Falls, Elephant interactions, Crocodile tours, Fishing , Micro-lighting and Game Drives to name a few. One of the favourites is the Chobe day trip which takes place in the Chobe Game Reserve in Botswana.
Livingstone also offers numerous places to dine in style or just enjoy the sun set over the Zambezi River. The river deck at the Royal Livingstone and the Pool deck at the David Livingstone Safari Lodge are local favourite spots to watch the sun go down.
There are several curio markets around Livingstone as well as an Art Museum featuring local artists.
The Mosi-O-Tunya National Game reserve is a short drive from Livingstone and hosts the only surviving white rhinos in Zambia.

Like January but getting cooler so humidity is not a major factor.
Rain starting to become scattered. Vegetation is very green and temperatures usually in the high 20’s to low 30’s Centigrade.
End of the rainy season but could have the odd “April Shower”. Temperature is in the 20’s. this is the best month to visit Zambia.
Getting cooler. Days are warm but it can be cold at night. Bring a set of warm evening clothes. Best time to visit the Falls.
Winter is here. Cool during the day but the evening can be bitterly cold.
The heart of our winter! Temperature can get down to zero at night.
Temperatures starting to rise again. Warm days and cold nights are the norm.
Spring ! Generally warm to hot and the river temperature is rising.
Getting hot! It’s also dry, dusty and windy but it’s a good time to view animals in the parks as they congregate around the water holes.
Usually a hot and humid month. The odd early rain shower has settled the dust by now.
Green and humid but generally not too hot. Expect the occasional torrential tropical thunderstorm.
